When I’m not working I’m…
... Enjoying Oxford! Every Wednesday night you’ll find me in Park End, and then depending on how I feel when I wake up Thursday morning, I’ll be in Bridge too! I enjoy going out with friends, whether to clubs or to bars/restaurants. There are also a few good cinemas in Oxford, which are the perfect way to relax. Apart from that, I’m really interested in fashion, so work with Cherwell doing photoshoots and writing articles. It’s so good meeting new people this way. The gym at Iffley road (where BNC students get free membership!) is also really handy. BuzzFeed is another great way to procrastinate… Endless quizzes keep me busy for hours!
What made you choose to study at Brasenose and/or Oxford?
We came on an open day with school and I instantly fell in love with it. Everyone was so friendly and the sign at the lodge is true; we are the happiest college! Even if I am a bit biased. Also, the accommodation is really good as we are offered it for the duration of our course. Our annex is really central too so it’s perfect. Generally, it’s just a really pretty college with friendly tutors in a great location! Plus, we have an arts week in Trinity term which will be really good fun.
Is life in Oxford different to what you expected it to be?
I didn’t expect the nightlife to be as good as it is, and coming from Liverpool where there’s a lot of clubs, it surprised me that I almost prefer it! (I will get in trouble for saying that…) There are always people who are up for going out and having a great time and, contrary to popular belief, there’s actually quite a good range of places to go out at night. Also, I didn’t expect to have as much time to do extra curricular activities. Although we do get a lot of work and have a fair amount of essays to do, it is definitely manageable and a balance can be achieved. I knew from the open day that everyone was really friendly, but I think it’s important that everyone knows Oxford is not full of aspiring prime ministers and Albert Einsteins!
What do you like most about studying in Brasenose?
As I said, everyone really is very friendly and the tutors are great; they will always help you if you need it. I think the location is one of the key selling points- everything is within walking distance. Plus, you get to walk out of college onto Radcliffe Square, which is absolutely beautiful, especially when it’s sunny! Also, our JCR is so good. We have a pool table, vending machine and a huge TV. Made in Chelsea Mondays are definitely a highlight!
A quality you think is important for someone looking to study at Oxford?
Determination! It is difficult, I’m not going to lie, but if you are passionate about your course and are determined to do well, you will get the work done and enjoy your time here. Also, don’t forget that there is always someone to talk to if you need to, and, although the work is hard, it is not impossible!
What are the perks of your degree?
Year abroad!!!
