It was a very sombre start to term with the death of our talented second year Classics student Max Mian, who died in Oxford on Monday 2 October. He was a brilliant and popular student and we will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are especially with his family and friends and everyone at the College is doing all we can to help and support them and each other at such a difficult time. Max’s parents Helen and Shah came to Brasenose to stay overnight in the Lodgings and met about twenty of Max’s friends, as well as his main Tutor, Llewelyn Morgan.
I must pay tribute to all the staff and students who have helped in providing counselling and support to our students and staff who are greatly saddened by this experience. The JCR Committee have been amazing in helping students at this difficult time as well as keeping Freshers’ Week going.
Max’s funeral is likely to be in his home town of Norwich but we will hold a Memorial Service here. The College is closed to tourists, a book of condolence has been opened and our flag is being flown at half mast.
