Mr Darren Zeming Chan
-
Position
Stipendiary Lecturer in Physics
Qualifications
BSc in Mathematical Physics (Honours, Co-op), University of Waterloo, Canada, minor in Pure Mathematics
Academic Background and Previous Positions
I joined the Oxford Laser-Plasma Accelerator Group in October 2022 as a DPhil student under the supervision of Professor Simon Hooker.
I hold a BSc in Mathematical Physics (Honours, co-operative) from the University of Waterloo, Canada. While in the co-op programme there, I had the opportunity to do research work in cold atom physics, particle physics, quantum chemistry, and quantum optics at UWaterloo, CERN (remotely), the National Research Council Canada, and the National Laboratory for AMO Physics Poland.Undergraduate Teaching Areas
Part A (second-year) Mathematical Methods for Physics
Part A Optics
Prelims (first-year) Electricity and MagnetismResearch Interests
Laser-plasma interactions: specifically, laser wakefield acceleration of electrons. Development of novel plasma waveguide geometries to guide terawatt laser pulses over multi-centimetre distances at kilohertz repetition rates. Schemes to connect multiple wakefield accelerator stages to reach energies >10 GeV.
