Academic Background and Previous Positions

Natasha holds a DPhil in Geography and the Environment from the University of Oxford, in association with the UKRI National Environment Research Council Doctoral Training Program (NERC-DTP) and Hertford College. Prior to studying for her DPhil, Natasha undertook her BSc in Physical Geography and MSc in Applied GIS and Remote Sensing at the University of Southampton (2014–2018). Upon graduation, she worked as a corporate geospatial analyst in the City of London (2018–2019). Her DPhil research (2020–2024) applied a combination of fieldwork experimentation, remote sensing analysis and laboratory methods to determine the controls on the emission of atmospheric mineral aerosols from Etosha Pan, Namibia – a major southern-hemisphere dust source.

Undergraduate Teaching Areas

Natasha teaches physical geography across the 1st year (Preliminary Examination) and 2nd/3rd year (Final Honours School) BA Geography course. She also lectures on the ‘Desert Landscapes and Dynamics’ options course.

Research Interests

Natasha’s research interests and experience encompass aspects of aeolian geomorphology and are primarily focused on the global dust cycle, with emphasis on the investigation of the geomorphological and hydrological processes that modulate the emission of atmospheric mineral dust from large ephemeral lake bed sources in dryland regions. 

Since completing her DPhil, Natasha has continued her involvement with ongoing projects in global dust emissions modelling and field/space imaging spectroscopy to analyse and interpret the surface geochemistry of major ephemeral lake systems in southern Africa. Natasha’s work has involved collaborations with various international organisations, including NASA and the USGS.
